Accommodation

Inverlunan Country Retreats (Fishermens' Bothy) is ideal for guests who are seeking rest and recreation in a beautiful and stress-free rural environment at the renowned sea-scape of Lunan bay, in the east-coast County of Angus, Scotland.

The Inverlunan property is a former shore salmon-netting station used by commercial salmon fisheries since time immemorial. The industry has been in decline for several decades. Andrew Gauldie has owned the property (formerly known as “Lunan bothies”) since 2002.  Fishermens' Bothy was developed with the help of an architect to provide modern and comfortable holiday accommodation.

The self-catering business commenced as a full-time venture in 2016; and since then Andrew and Edi Gauldie have achieved a high rate of bookings during all seasons. Guests have provided very positive formal reviews, reporting that they love being so close to the beach, and the river (“the Lunan water”), and the beautiful rural surroundings, nature, and the sea-scape. They also report a high standard of house cleaning, fresh linen and towels, and the provision of a warm welcome and on-going support.

Objectives of the owners

The objectives of the owners include provision of a “value for money” standard of accommodation and to provide facilities for guests to have a memorable holiday, provision of a clean premises and fresh consumable items such as bed linen and towels, with real-time maintenance. If guests are struggling with a problem the owners (who live in Montrose) are almost always available to respond with advice or help; however, yet a further aim of the owners is to provide privacy and space for guests to enjoy their holiday.

Fishermens' Bothy

Up to 2 Guests

The Fishermens’ bothy (also known as “Lunan bothy”) is a quaint and ancient small stone building originally used to store salmon fishing nets, and to provide temporary accommodation for the fishermen during the days and nights when they attended the nets set out in the tidal zones of Lunan bay.

Beachside

Up to 8 Guests

This is a large house suitable for extended families and groups of friends. There are 4 well-appointed bedrooms, each with en-suite facilities.. The principal bedroom has a spectacular view of the Lunan water and the Red Castle. The downstairs double bedroom is often selected by older guests.

Riverside

Up to 4 Guests

Riverside is also a spacious house, but for 4 guests. The house faces due south, and directly overlooks the Lunan water and the Red Castle. There is an enclosed garden area which can restrain a dog (or dogs) from straying away from the house. The front of the house is a “sun-trap” and often in summer guests choose to eat and drink outside on the patio.
